Daylight Saving Time and scheduling

Stillio observes Daylight Saving Time (DST). The change to and from summertime could affect the moment your screenshots are made.

Is DST relevant for you?

When it's not:

This does not affect you if you're not in a timezone that adapts to DST (e.g. Perth, Australia or Arizona, United States).
It also does not affect you if you are in a timezone that adapts to DST and if you have not configured Stillio to take screenshots in the timeframe (e.g. between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m.) when DST changes occur.

When it is relevant:

Are you in a timezone that adapts to DST? And have you configured Stillio to take screenshots at DST changes? Please read on.

Say you're in New York — you're in the Eastern Timezone (ET) then. This timezone adapts to DST: on the second Sunday in March, at 2:00 a.m., clocks are advanced to 3:00 a.m, and on the first Sunday in November, at 2:00 a.m., clocks are moved back to 1:00 a.m. How does this influence the moment Stillio takes screenshots? Two examples.

Example 1: every day

You've configured Stillio to take a screenshot of a webpage every day at 2:00 a.m. On Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 2:00 a.m., this page is screenshotted as usual. However one day later, on Sunday, March 8, at 2:00 a.m., no screenshot is made: 2:00 a.m. does not exist because of the DST change. Stillio does not make the screenshot at 3:00 a.m. because this would change your time setting (from 2:00 to 3:00 a.m.). Instead, the screenshot is made the next day, on Monday, March 9, at 2:00 a.m.

In short: if you've scheduled a webpage of which screenshots should be made every nth day, week or month, and the hour at which these screenshots should be made is within a DST change, this change will affect the moment at which the screenshots are created. When DST starts, screenshots are not made during the one-hour "gap" (e.g. between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. if you're in the Eastern Timezone).

Example 2: every hour

You've configured Stillio to take a screenshot of a webpage every whole hour. On Sunday, March 8, 2020, at 1:00 a.m., this page is screenshotted as usual. However one hour later, at 2:00 a.m., no screenshot is made: 2:00 a.m. does not exist because of the DST change. Instead, the screenshot is made at 3:00 a.m. Likewise, on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at 1:00 a.m., this page is screenshotted as usual. However one hour later, at 2:00 a.m., no screenshot is made: 2:00 a.m. does not exist because of the DST change. Instead, the screenshot is made again at 1:00 a.m. — and the next screenshot is made at 2:00 a.m. as usual.

In short: if you've scheduled a webpage of which screenshots should be made every nth minute or hour, DST changes will affect the moment at which these screenshots are created. When DST starts, screenshots are not made in the one-hour "gap" (e.g. between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. if you're in the Eastern Timezone). When DST ends, screenshots are made twice in the "duplicate hour" (e.g. between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. if you're in the Eastern Timezone).

Stillio observes DST since March 26, 2019. Before that Stillio took screenshots based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which does not adapt to DST.
